PNG. Drivers sometimes think the reason their car won't start is battery related when in fact it's glow if one glow plug fails, the engine may still start but it might run roughly initially. Glow plugs are the equivalent of spark plugs on a petrol car and are required to ignite, combust whatever it may be to get the diesel to burn.

Glow plug light stays on, engine turns over but won't start. Hi, i recently purchased an a6 (c5) 2.4 sport multitronic 2002 59k from a car supermarket and have had no other issues so far. I can hear it clicking.

I'm guessing that either one or more.

I've not checked mine yet but i suspect the same/similar issue. Warning light is on inspection cost. Without it, your diesel engine won't start. I'm guessing that either one or more.
